Tips for Planning an Unforgettable Bachelorette Party
Whether it’s your sister, your cousin, your future sister-in-law, or your best friend who’s getting married, you want to celebrate her last days of being single with an unforgettable bash.
Bachelorette parties are a rite of passage for brides-to-be. They’re a way for a future bride and her gal pals to get together and have one last big hurrah (though there’s obviously nothing stopping the ladies from getting together after the guest of honor becomes a Mrs).
If you’re helping with the planning of a bachelorette party for a special girlfriend in your life, there’s no doubt that you want it to go off without a hitch. Here are some tips that will help you throw an incredible affair that the blushing bride-to-be will never forget.
Make It All About Her
This should be obvious, but it’s worth mentioning. A lot of women get so wrapped up in planning a bachelorette party that they interject too many of their own interests or wants into the event. While you might have the same taste in a lot of things, your idea of the ideal bachelorette party and hers could be completely different.
Even if you want to keep an element of surprise, don’t be afraid to ask her some key questions. She’s obviously expecting a party, so she might be expecting you to ask her what she wants. You can still keep things a surprise – like the date, the location, the games, and the attire – even if you do ask her what it is that she wants.
Shop Sales and Discounts
If you’re planning on throwing a bachelorette party at one location (your apartment, for example), shop for supplies at discount stores or hit up sales. There are tons of online stores that sell supplies that you can use for a bachelorette party or that sell items that are specifically meant for such an affair. Don’t be afraid to shop around for the best price. If you’re one of the bridesmaids, you’re going to be shelling out a lot of money for the wedding (the gown, your hair, and makeup, a gift…) so try to save yourself some money on bachelorette party supplies by hitting up sales and discount supply stores.
Start Early
Whether you’re hosting the event at a single location, you plan on hitting several spots throughout the night, or you want to make it a destination affair, start planning well in advance. You’ll be able to lock in cheaper prices the earlier you book. Plus, you can ensure that your reservations are set in stone so you can avoid scrambling to find a killer location at the last minute.
Pick a Theme
If you want to throw a party that’s a little less generic than the typical bachelorette party, pick a theme! For example, you might choose a specific color, a style of attire (flapper, 80s, 90s, etc), or even a masquerade-theme. Infuse the theme throughout the affair. Include it in the clothing, the party games, the food and drink, the music, and the décor. A theme can really help to pull the whole event together and make it even more unforgettable.
Don’t Forget Transportation
If you’re planning on bouncing around from place to place, or if it’s going to be a destination event (did someone say Vegas?), don’t forget to arrange for transportation. The last thing you want to do is worry about how you’re going to get a bunch of ladies around. Rent a stretch limo or a party bus so you can all travel together in style. Plus, you can start the fun while you’re on the road.
Make a Playlist
What’s a party without music? Get together with the rest of the ladies who are helping to throw the affair and create a killer playlist. Include some of the bride-to-be’s favorite dance songs, and don’t forget to include classic tunes, too. If you want, you can make a few different playlists: one for getting ready, one for the main event, and one for the day after (when everyone is trying to recover from a night of dancing).
Create a Signature Cocktail
Destination, stay-at-home, night on the town, or even camping; whatever type of bachelorette party you are planning, there’s one thing that you definitely don’t want to forget: the libations! Create a signature drink for the event (you can even give it a clever name). Whip up a few batches before the party starts, bottle them up, and pack them in coolers so you can easily grab a drink and go.
Makeup Survival Bags
The bride-to-be and all the gals will be super thankful when you hand out survival bags. Fill little gift bags or tote bags with each attendee’s name embroidered on it with some essentials; bottled water, aspirin, mints, hair spray, hair ties, flip flops, granola bars, and anything else you think the ladies would find useful during – and after – the event.
Plan a Flash Mob!
If you’ve got a big crew (or even if it’s just a ladies), surprise the soon-to-be bride with a flash mob (or flash few)! Choose a killer song and get together well ahead of time to work on a choreographed dance. Ask the DJ to play the song or pop it onto your playlist and impress the future Mrs with an amazing dance routine!
Don’t Assume All Responsibility
A bachelorette party is a big event, and costs can get out of control pretty quickly. Don’t assume all of the financial responsibility; if you do, you’ll end up going broke! Make sure you communicate with your guests that they are responsible for paying their way as far as their beverages or food goes. If you’re renting a limo, you might want to ask them to contribute, too. Talking finances can be uncomfortable, but you’ll be way more uncomfortable when you find there’s nothing left in your bank account.
By following these tips, you can plan a killer bachelorette party that you, the guests, and most importantly, the bride-to-be, will never forget!
